Church launches new History of Meole Brace

‘Meole Brace Through the Centuries, first published in 1958, tells the story of the ecclesiastical parish of Meole Brace, which includes Radbrook and Nobold, and in previous centuries also included parts of Hanwood and Kingsland.

Drawing on parish records, old photographs and other sources, Major Paddock’s original text has been brought right up to date, and colour photographs and prints included.

Kevin Lawrence, from Trinity Churches, who has overseen the project, told us,

The parish of Meole Brace has been a vibrant community for hundreds of years and this history brings its story vividly to life.  Whilst so much has changed, even in the sixteen years since the last edition was published, there remains much that the original author would still recognise.’

The book contains details of Meole’s colourful past, including two sackings by the Welsh, a shooting at the church, eccentric vicars and the desperate efforts locals made to battle the plague.  Kevin continued,

‘ he pages of this book throw light on so much of modern Meole and Radbrook it is well worth a read and would make a great Christmas stocking filler for local residents.’

Copies, priced £5 to cover printing costs, are available from Trinity Churches office or Cafe Connect in Radbrook Green
